Ottawa Family Photographer – The Winner of the Facebook Contest

Back in September, I did the “What Were you Thinking Contest. The winner would win a family/couple portrait session with their choice of one 16×20.

A variety of interesting photos were submitted by clients or people who had joined my Facebook page. The winner was announced on September 30, 2011 and it was Cass Caterino.

Cass came in with her boyfriend James on November 19 for her photo session. They chose to dress in casual clothing. We did a variety of portrait poses and at the end I convinced them to do some sexy photos!

I asked Cass what made her want to participate in the contest:

I had seen Chantal’s work before and pictures she had done for my mom and I really wanted a session with her and I wanted to help get her name out there .

How did you get people to vote for you and how did you manage to always be in front of the other contestants?

I just asked everyone who I spoke with to like my photo … When I was on Facebook and anybody who came online I would message them and harass them to do it now and not later!!! Everyone who came to see me at work, I told them to add me on Facebook and to like my picture on Chantal’s page .. When I would see I was neck and neck with someone else’s picture I would speak to people I never usually spoke to and I would also tell my friends to tell everyone they knew.. It was hard work!!

What was your experience with the photo session?

I had so much fun in the session !! I felt so comfortable and it was really fun and bonding to get pictures done with my boyfriend!!! I always recommend Chantal to everyone .. I took business cards with me, handed some out at work, the next week and put some on the staff bulletin board!!

Congratulations Cass on your hard work. It was a pleasure to work with both of you. Hope you enjoy your wall portrait.

Ottawa Engagement Session – Marry Me or ….

Nathalie and Vincent are getting married in October and I was their chosen photographer.

They came to see me for an engagement photo session to be able to display at their reception along with a slide show.

Nathalie did not want typical, traditional poses. Vincent went along with whatever Nathalie wanted. “Happy wife, happy life”!!!!

They did poses lying on the floor, standing, piggy back poses, romantic and fun poses. When we were done, Nathalie asked for more fun poses. For Nathalie and Vincent, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and they want to make the most of it. Here are the results!!!

Engagement sessions are important because we get to know each other and we know what to expect on the wedding day. If Nathalie and Vincent had not done the session, I would not have known to what extent they were open to the fun ideas. Wait and see what they are willing to do for their wedding.

Nathalie and Vincent, congratulations on your engagement and looking forward to October 1st.

Should you have an Engagement Session?

Congratulations on your engagement! Your engagement signifies your love to one another and it deserves to be captured forever.

When you book your wedding photographer it is a good idea to book an engagement session. Your engagement photos are going to be more important than you probably realize and thinking through this process will help you end up with images that best reflect you. This session will give you and your photographer the opportunity to get to know each other before the wedding day, be comfortable with one another and to find out your photographer’s working style and etiquette. Would you want your photographer to show up in shorts and an Hawaiian shirt on your wedding day?

Some clients do not like looking at each other, kissing, their profile, romantic poses, a particular side of their face, showing teeth and so on. An engagement session is a great way to develop a personal relationship with your photographer so your wedding images reflect your taste, style and are flawless.

Whether it is in the studio, your favourite park, the beach, the place you met or your favourite season, the results will end up reflecting you. Neutral clothing is always recommended, whether you are dressed up or casual, because I want to focus on the couple’s beautiful face. Co-ordination in clothing is also recommended. You can opt to where clothes that can reflect a hobby or bring your pet along.

The images that you choose from your engagement photo shoot are going to be good quality and can be used in other ways, such as your save the date mailing, wedding program, guest book and on decorations. The reception hall or gift table is a great place to display your images, so preparing before you stand in front of the camera is important.

I hope these tips are useful. I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Ottawa Engagement Session – Check out this beautiful couple

Anick & Yan received a gift certificate for Christmas, from Yan’s father, for a photo session.  It came at a good time because they recently got engaged. Wedding day is not yet determined. They chose to have their session taken at the studio.

I told Yan he would be in the studio for a few hours. You should have seen the look on his face!!! I was just pulling his leg.

Anick & Yan are a beautiful couple so it wasn’t difficult to photograph them.  All of their photos are simply gorgeous and they would look awesome as a display at their wedding venue.

Congratulations to both of you on your engagement.
