What is Pin-up Photography?

Pin-up photography was popular during World War II as a reminder to the troops of what awaited them back home. It has made a major comeback in the last 2 years.

Pin-up is a movie star day out, stopping traffic, accelerating pulses, being a tease, going back to an era of seamed stockings and cherry lips. Showing off those slim legs, your curves and being proud of them, voluptuous bosoms, enticing cleavage, flashy hair style or mysterious eyes à la Betty Grable, Rita Hayworth, Ann Margaret, Carmen Electra or attitude à la James Dean.  It’s about being confident with who you are.

This playful session is an experience to remember. View the slide show and see what it’s all about.

Is Pinup just for thin Women?

No it’s not.  Pinup is a movie star day out, stopping traffic, accelerating pulses, being a tease, going back to an era of seamed stockings and cherry lips.  It’s about being confident about who you are, showing off your curves and being proud of them.

When Dina approached me for a pinup session I had to tell her that my costumes would not fit her and was afraid of offending her.  I gave her ideas for some costumes but thought for sure she would walk away.  She replied to my e-mail and said she would find something.  Her husband, Martin, is a big fan of pinup and had a book on Pinup so Dina managed to find all her ideas from that book.  The internet is another great way to find examples.  Dina went shopping at various places such as Addition Elle and Party Packagers and found 3 outfits.  I was impressed to how much attention she had put to the details.

Working with Dina was so uplifting.  She’s a big girl and she knows it.  We laughed until our cheeks hurt.  She stood in front of the camera and gave me these expressions to capture.  Dina has a way of putting a huge smile on my face.  She’s easy going and doesn’t take anything seriously.  When she saw her proofs, she fell in love with the photos and decided to purchase herself a brag book album.

If Dina was able to dress for this part why can’t you?

Another happy Pin-up client

Lise has been a client of mine since 2006.  She is not afraid to try something new and dramatic.  Everytime I see her she was a different hair style or color.  When I told her that I was offering Pin-up photographs she immediately jumped on the occasion and wanted the experience.  We had fun trying all sort of poses, costumes and props.  I was very impressed that she had taken the time to go to her hairdresser to have her hair and make-up done to reflect the 1950′s style.  Pin-up portrait is the opportunity for a women to feel sexy and playful without having to reveal too much.  Here is what Lise had to say about her Pin-up session.

“I made one of my daydreams/fantasies become a reality by simply calling the one and only Chantal Benoit THE photographer!

Ottawa Pin-up Photography Testimonial

Brigitte came to the studio to have a Pin-up portrait session.  She went out of her way to research the poses, make-up and whatever would make her photos reflect that era.  She brought in some of her own props and costume.  What a good time we had!!  Brigitte is not afraid of the camera which makes it easy for her to reveal her sensuality, her playfulness and strike a pose!!!  Here is what she had to say about her experience.

“I must say it was lots of fun researching the 1950’s pin-up look to get ready for the photo shoot like: the makeup, the hair and the different exaggerated facial expressions typical of the 1950’s magazine adds.  I loved the photos Chantal took.  The poses and the different finishing colors on some of the photographs made them look like they were right out of an old magazine.

I recommend women of all ages to, at least once in their life time, do a photo shoot. The experience will leave you feeling beautiful and special.  Those moments captured on the photos will serve as a memory of that special time you took just for you!!

Thank you Chantal for making me feel special and capturing my inner and outer beauty.”

Thank you Brigitte for your confidence.  It was a pleasure working with you.
