This playful session is an experience to remember and your chance to act it out. Pin-up is an excellent way to show your sexy side without revealing too much.

Laurie was in need of some pampering. With a 2 year old son, a full time job and the owner of a horse ranch, she completely forgot about herself and thought this session would be uplifting.

She came in with bags full of clothing and props and was well prepared to go back to the pin-up era. It was fun to capture the different costumes and looks. After completing the pin-up session, I had a bit of spare time so I convinced Laurie to do a bit a nudes to show off her gorgeous legs.

Back in February, I hosted a “It’s All about You”‘ contest on my Facebook Page and one  complimentary session was given to the person with the best photo.

I met Melanie through an acquaintance. That introduction later led to a family session and a fairy portrait session. She submitted a photo of her sitting in a garden of flowers and since I’m a flower lover my first reaction was WOW.

When I announced that she was the “photographer’s choice!!!” she was very happy because she was in need of some pampering because she is a full time mom of 3 beautiful children and a wife to a handsome husband.

Melanie’s choice of clothing was bare minimum!!! However, the look in her eyes, her long legs and body artwork defines her personality and her simplicity.

Boudoir is not just about the end product printed on photographic paper. It’s also about the experience on how it makes you feel beautiful, sexy and how empowering it can be. It’s about personality, outlook and positive attitude……

Everyone has a special smile, hand movement or look that makes them sexy.

A boudoir session is your opportunity to tell your husband that you love him by being captured in an intimate, romantic, sensual way. It’s your opportunity to remind him how much you care about him or re-kindle your relationship. It’s also a great opportunity to take ownership of your body. You know the one you lost after you became the super women mom and wife!!

I recently worked with Amélie on a bridal boudoir project after posting a model
search in my Facebook page.

When I opened the door I was captured by her smile, her eyes and thought she was a beautiful curvy women. I was captured by her grace, her fashionable look and considered myself very lucky to have such a great model to work with.

Amélie explained that this session came at a very good time in her life because her wedding anniversary is coming up and she also needed it to boost her confidence.

In my opinion, I think she belongs on the cover of a magazine!!!

How often are you in front of the camera? It can be intimidating. An engagement session is a good chance to practice.

Most engagement sessions last between one to one hour and a half.

For outdoor sessions, you can pick a meaningful location such as your first date or your engagement site. There are also numerous parks in the area such as the Rockeries in Rockliffe Park, the Museum of Civilization, Mooney’s Bay or the Experimental Farm, which may fit your style. You may also opt for a studio session.

Pets are welcome and are great for candid shots.

Your hair, make-up and nails should be done before you arrive. This is a good opportunity for your hairdresser and make-up artist to try the style you would like on the day of your wedding.

Feel free to bring along any images you have seen in magazines or elsewhere. This will give your photographer a better idea of what you like.

Your clothing should be the same color. Avoid stripes or patterns, so the focus remains on the face. If you do choose clothing with a pattern, try to keep the same color harmony. You can bring different outfits to get different looks and a variety to choose from. Casual and/or dressy, whatever suits your style.
Engagement photos are great to display at your reception venue. Make sure the size of your reception image will be large enough to be displayed prominently. A guest book is nice, so people can write personal messages. If you plan on doing save the date cards, schedule your session early, so you can use one of your images for the cards or a newspaper announcement.

Whatever location you choose, you can make it fun and different.

A newborn session is a wonderful way to commemorate that phase, and it usually takes place during the second week that your baby is home from the hospital.

Many mothers are eager to document their brand new child, but might have some insecurities with their post-baby body. This is a common concern, but the newborn session is not complete without a beaming, proud new mother. Here are some tips to help you look and feel your best during this important session with your little one.

Keep hydrated. You will be especially thirsty after your baby arrives, especially if you are nursing, so drink a lot of water, juices and milk. The more fluids you drink, the less you will retain. Avoid salt, as it causes water retention . Avoid soda and carbonated beverages as they can make you bloated as well.

Rest as much as possible. With a new baby in the house, this might not be possible, but it is important to be relaxed and rejuvenated for your session. Ask a friend or your mom to help you care for your baby the night before your session so you can get some rest. During the day, nap when the baby naps.

Wear black as it is slimming and is very forgiving. You probably want to wear a maternity top, preferably one that is tight in the bust but flowing over your belly. The baby will be held over your chest and midsection in most poses , and that will camouflage any problem areas. You can also wear some Spanx, underneath your clothes, to help smooth out your curves and offer some support to your lower back and abdominals.

Keep jewelry light. You don’t want to distract from your child’s precious newborn face. Less is usually more, but it you have a sentimental piece of jewelry bring it along as it will add meaning in the portrait for you and your child.

Get a manicure before your session. Your hands will be visible in almost every pose, supporting your child’s neck and head. A soft pink, neutral color or French Manicure is a good choice for this session.
